Automobile Safety Foundation Warns of Unsafe Mirror Crisis

The Automobile Safety Foundation states that, "In traffic drivers cannot merge onto the freeway or change lanes safely with standard equipment side view mirrors." That's very chilling news.

Unless they have had a side-swipe or near-miss accident, drivers may not know that they are driving impaired, due to defective standard equipment mirrors that have a blind spot. The results can be disastrous and, even worse, fatal. By being unaware of the drivers that you can't see, you risk injury or death to them and yourself.

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation, blind-spot sideswipes account for about 826,000 annual vehicle accidents and 160,000 personal injuries. Because many accident causes are never reported, this may be a conservative estimate.

Blind-spot accidents are preventable. ASF encourages all drivers not to drive impaired but responsibly. They can do this by obtaining blind spot mirror attachments that provide safety for themselves and others.
